Shivarama Karanth must have done immense research before writing this and the best part is, he presents the alternate viewpoints without hurting anybody's sentiments or beliefs and its more like putting across one's opinion without offending anyone When you say there is God and He created Man and Woman, what's right in saying their Union is wrong, that the concept of Samsara is something that should be spurned. Due to which others think that she has lost her mental balance and become crazy. The clarity with which he does is wonderful to read. I am sure many of my views have been changed forever after reading Mookajjiya KanasugaLu.

More wbook read, more you think and more you question. The book mainly revolves around the conversations between a grand mother and grand son. Mookajji, Subbaraya, Seethe, Anantaraya exist as totems for different belief systems and mainly to create the arguments and get the points across. I did expect something like that.
Apr 07, Shrusti rated it really liked it. Mookajjiya kanasugalu has made me mookajjjiya in love with kannada literature. Mookajjiya Kanasugalu tells a story of "Mookajji" who has a divine power of seeing the past, future and things that people believe because they are made to believe.
This book nicely tells how and why we should treat life is more greater than any religion and GOD. It helped me see how the ideas and issues that the book tackles could be framed so as to show how everyone is coming at them from the same intention - the desire to live a decent, "good" life.
It could be the true nature of a man hiding his true intentions, or an old relic from an abandoned cave - Mookajji and her visions kanausgalu revisit every event that has involved them.
The writing is very lucid and simple and can be read by anyone who kanasugal learnt to read kannada in school. Through the 'visions' seen by Mookajji Karanth traces the growth of belief and the 'creation' of multiple Gods and the shifts in the balance of power among different Gods.

Back in the house he already knows about his granny who has these extraordinary psychic powers and gives the finds to his granny who by touching explains its past and so on he goes kanasubalu and there collects even more things and finds about them.
I am sure many of my views have been changed forever after reading Mookajjiya KanasugaLu. Unlike English books, there is not much of a blurb of the story on the back of Kannada books, so you make do with what you've hear Probably would've been banned if it had been written in these charged kanasugslu days, or at least raised a fair bit of controversy considering the fate of works like Ramanujan's Ramayanas and Bhyrappa's Aavarana.
Must read kannada book. Amazing jnanapita award winning Novel. This book is a social commentary, which K Shivarama Karanth weaves through the magical medium of Mookajji - an old woman who can see the past and present of anything she comes in close proximity with.
No wonder this bagged JnanaPeeTa award. Dec 22, Pavan Bhat rated it it was amazing.
